Mammen Wolf Magnate

From the Mammen grave near Viborg. The person interned into the mound Bjerringhøj in 970-971 must have been powerful and rich. Aside fron the fancy clothes, the body was laid to rest on down cushions with an ornate axe of silver inlay with flowing interlaced lines. The axe is seen as the paragon example that defined a whole style and period of Viking age art: Mammen Style.
